Advanced Baking – Day 1

Today was the first day of Advanced Baking class and we met over in Nelson Hall 121. The class is comprised of second year students that would be creating a specialty cake, chocolate, and sugar work. We took the class period to team up with a partner to design our fondant cakes. Ellie, who was sitting next to me in class, turned and said one word: partners? I immediately said yes, I wanted so much to work on a project with her. She has so much talent and I think I could learn a thing or two from her – being a baking student and all. We started drawing designs of how our cake wanted to look like, and we wanted branches and different colored leaves on it. We started thinking pumpkins, apples, pears and acorns, assorted different autumn themed things to decorate with. Today was short because it was our first day, and we wanted to establish a somewhat clear view of our cakes so that we could start working on garnishes the next week. The pictures that we looked at in class were very helpful in trying to view what our cakes would look like in the next three weeks.
